Boat Winterization

An important part of standard boat maintenance is to ensure that your vessel has been appropriately winterized. We recommend protecting your boat or yacht from the harsh winds and freezing temperatures that can corrode or permanently damage sensitive machinery. Multnomah Yacht Repair & Commercial Marine Power Systems offers full service boat winterization that will keep your vessels engine and systems safe during the coldest months of the year.

The full process of boat winterization includes:

  • Fogging the internal engine to keep cylinder walls lubricated to prevent rust pits & carbon deposits that can deteriorate piston ring sealing
  • Draining all systems that use fresh water & adding antifreeze to systems that need it
  • Adding fuel stabilizer to gasoline or diesel boat engines to prevent deterioration & breakdown over time
  • Oil & filter changes to remove any moisture trapped in the oil & prevent heavy materials suspended in it from settling in the bottom of the pan
  • Checking & disconnecting the battery to reduce the chance of complete discharge, which damages a battery’s overall ability to hold a charge during storage
  • Removing the drain plug to allow any water in the vessel to drain out

The price for winterizing a boat varies depending on the customer’s needs and vessel requirements. This service typically takes up to 1 day to complete, and the benefits can last for up to a year or more. We also recommend this service if you plan to store your boat and not run it for any time exceeding 2 months.
